So, what is all this talk about REACH Standards and how does that equate to opportunities? First, let's address the standard. REACH is an acronym that stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).
REACH is a European Union regulation established in 2006 and in full force as of 2017 that addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and how they may impact human health and the environment. This standard is the strictest European law regulating chemical substances that affect industries all over the world. Close to 143,000 chemical substances are registered for used and 173,000 substances are on the SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) list.
The European Chemicals Agency manages the administrative, technical and scientific elements of REACH and must be notified if there is a presence of SVHC’s in articles if the total quantity used is more than one ton per year and the SVHC is present at more than 0.1% of the mass of the object.
